OK folks... Here's the deal:
I'm taking submissions for GotBlack.com stickers. I'm thinking that
8.50" x 2.75" would be an ideal size and it's at a pretty good price,
so let's shoot for designs in that size.
Submissions should created at 300-600 dpi, but the one you email me
can be smaller for voting. As well, all submissions should be white
art on a black background to make them affordable. If anyone needs
the GotBlack.com logo (or better yet, design me a new one!), email me
and ask.
In one week from today (that's Monday, October 29, 2001) I'll have
them all online for voting. At that point, I'll announce the voting
here with a URL to view the submissions and set up a poll in
the "polls" area. We'll vote for one more week, and then I'll
announce the winner and send the PSD to the printer to make the
stickers.
The winning design will get 10 stickers to give to friends, credit on
the website, personal thanks from me, and a warm fuzzy feeling.
So open your favourite graphics program and start designin'. And
forward this on so we can get a lot of people involved for the best
possible stickers.
For those who are getting announcements only on this list, here's
some background.... It was suggested that we make GotBlack.com
stickers for people to put on their cars and so that we'd recognize
one another on the street. Somehow, the idea just started moving,
and we're in the design stage.
As a side note, I'm pretty picky about shirts and am of the opinion
that white wouldn't sell, which is why there's no GotBlack.com shirts
yet, because black are pricey for this broke boi. If anyone would
buy white ones, let me know and I'll get some going. If there's
enough interest, I'll have a design contest for that too! That goes
the same for mugs, boxers (I want you all wearing GotBlack.com
underwear), mouse pads, etc.
It seems some lame-ass had nothing better to do with his or her time than to sit around rating EVERY profile on the site with a "10".
Of course I don't care so much about that, except that each profile was receiving about 50 or so ratings from the same loser. It seems
super-dork found a way to sneak past the IP checking I had put into place to prevent such childish behaviour.
So... I have fixed this and reset all the profiles to ZERO ratings. It's just as well no that I added the "profile of the moment"
link so that everyone gets their turn in the spotlight. Oh... And I have your IP, idiot, so if you pull something like that again, I'll
be very open and public about who you are.

I've built the substantial (and important) parts of the playlist
database and they're ready for use.
For those who don't know what this is... DJs go to GotBlack.com and
register. Then they log in and add a playlist. After adding the
playlist, the DJ can then email this list to several email addresses
(say, a few regional mailing lists) all from one page.
The benefit for everyone else is having one spot to easily find all
the playlists you're interested in. As well, you can view playlists
from other DJs around the world and see what's being played
elsewhere. Soon, I'll have some searching functionality in place so
you can find out what DJs are playing the music you like.
So... If you're a DJ, Go register and play around. And if you're not
a DJ, email the DJs at the clubs you frequent and tell them to check
it out.

I just manually edited all 556 profiles to clean up broken images and copy all existing profile images
to the GotBlack.com server. Now, when you add or modify your profile, you'll no longer just provide a URL to the image
(which means you don't have to host it elsewhere). Instead, you'll upload it to the server. This should keep us from
having ANY broken images, and if you've not added one because you don't have it hosted somehwere, now's the time to add
your profile image!
As a bonus, you can now see the existing image when you modify your profile and choose to change the image if you want.

I just added the "Profile of the Moment" above. It will show up on every page and simply rotates through the list. Previously, you would
have to modify your profile or be in the "Top 5" to show up on the front page. Now, everyone gets their turn on the front page.

So far today, I woke up feeling crappy, locked my keys in the house heading out the door to go to work, got here to notice that Outlook downloaded every one of the 1,222
emails I got last night about 30 times, and now I find that I severely broke the profile modify script. In fixing a small bug with the code, I created a new mySQL
query and forgot the "WHERE screenname=$screenname" clause. This means that when someone updated their "Quote" or "About Me" text, it updated EVERYONE's. I am really
sorry to everyone for the mistake. I fixed the problem and wiped all the quote and "about me" text fields.

Looks like The Nile will be doing a goth night again. Cover will be $5,
doors around 9PM and they're gonna bring back the industrial/EBM, goth, synth/wave, dark 80's. In an attempt to live in the
past, I'm going to check it out in October, when the night starts back up. Looks like the new owner got a new web site going
and some other cool changes.
