Welcome to GotBlack Radio. You're just moments away from listening to lots of great new music from some brilliant Gothic, Industrial, Noize, etc. artists, but first, I'll explain a bit about why GotBlack Radio was formed.
I got to a point where new stuff from VNV Nation, Covenant, etc. was GREAT music, but I can only listen to it so much before I have to mix in some other new stuff.
MP3.com seems to have so many artists that surely there's be something I liked. There is. There's plenty, but I never knew about it. So I started listening to about 15
hours a day of MP3.com artists at random, taking care to ignore artist and song names until I had listened. I've downloaded quite a bit of stuff I like and wanted to share it.
For a couple months, I mulled over the idea of a station, investigated the time/resources/money/hardware/legal details of running an Internet station, and got started.
The primary focus of the station is to promote artist who might be able to use a bit of extra promoting. You may not like everything you hear, but I spend a LOT of time
selecting artists that I think are worthy of the promotion, so you're bound to hear some new stuff you'll fall in love with.
If you're an artist or label and would like air time, email joi@gotblack.com for now. I'll soon have a form up that can be filled out.
Thanks
Joi
UPDATES
I've been so busy adding music, increasing availability, promoting, and everything else that I've neglected updating this page. So here's a quick update on the past year or so:
- A 12GB/sec pipe was donated to GotBlack Radio so we can allow more listeners in at a time. This came at the perfect time with a lot of people complaining to me that they couldn't connect.
- This year, GotBlack.com averaged about 3,000,000 hits per month from over 100 countries.
- There's finally talk of a GotBlack.com compilation CD. More on that later.
- We're now averaging between 7,000 and 10,000 listens per month.
I've been breaking ground on GotBlack.com 3.0 and plan to keep pushing out code until it's ready to roll. For GotBlack Radio, this means a lot of great stuff like live requests and track ratings. Look for it in early-mid 2005.
Your Support
Remember... The artists need our support, so I'd like to have as many people listening as possible. You're already here, but what about those who don't know about it. Be sure to tell
people about GotBlack Radio or at least one of the artists you hear for the first time here.

More about variety
When I started GB Radio, I was poking through mp3.com (yeah... that long ago), listening for stuff I thought should be promoted. These days, I check the mail a couple times a week and listen through the CDs that come in to find the good stuff. This change came for 2 reasons. First, with mp3.com gone, I'd have to pore through several sites that don't seem to have nailed it like mp3.com did, and it would take a lot longer. I don't have that kind of free time these days. Second, many artists and labels are already sending in press kits, so I'd be largely duplicating my efforts. With that in mind, the easiest way to get played is to send a press kit.
If you are in a band or manage a label and have some music in the Gothic/Industrial generes you think we'd like to play, send a cd, a (preferably autographed) 8x10 slick (for our wall), shirts, hoodies, stickers, and any other materials you feel are necessary to:
